What to do when your PayPal money is on hold or pending

PayPal has found that you’re an enhanced risk customer, which means you may be in breach of PayPal’s User Agreement, and your account has been placed on hold or pending status. The good news is that this isn’t necessarily permanent; it just means you need to work with PayPal to resolve the issue(s) on hold or pending against your account. While not every business owner will find themselves in this situation, it’s definitely something you should know about since you may be asked by another eBay seller or PayPal customer if they need to do the same thing.

Why does my PayPal money show as pending?

PayPal money is on hold or pending for different reasons. Sometimes, it’s because of payment confirmations and a few minutes later the money shows up in your account. Other times, it might be because someone is using an incorrect password or address when they log into their account. If you don’t have any pending transactions on your account or you think the transaction might not have gone through and that’s why you’re showing as pending, use this guide to resolve any issues with getting funds into your account.

Before you begin, check whether there are any issues with how you logged into your account. If someone is logging in to their account from a different location, they might be seeing pending as opposed to actual money. If that’s not it, log out of your account and log back in again. Sometimes logging out and back in can help refresh things with an erroneous transaction or any other reason for a pending status. It’s also important to note that these funds are placed into what’s called Pending Balance. This means they aren’t necessarily available for spending yet. Depending on why you have these funds placed into Pending Balance can help determine next steps so contact PayPal support if needed.

How can I release my funds?

PayPal only holds money on hold or pending for a short period of time, usually no more than seven days. There are three reasons why you might be holding.

-The first is if PayPal suspects fraud on the account or if there are chargebacks being initiated.

-The second is if there is a legal action underway against the account holder which may result in confiscation of assets or cashflow. PayPal will usually notify you in this case and provide you with further details about what’s happening and how to release your funds – they’ll also let you know when funds will be released from hold status.

-Lastly, if an email address on file for an account is incorrect or not recognized by our systems, then the funds will remain on hold until it’s resolved

If you believe that there’s a reason why your funds shouldn’t be held, you should open a dispute with PayPal and provide them with as much information as possible. If they find in favor of releasing these funds to you, they’ll let you know how they plan to make it happen.

Common reasons for funds being on hold

There are a few reasons why this might happen. One is that you entered a debit card or credit card number that is no longer valid, and the funds in your account are on hold while they wait for you to contact PayPal and update them with a new number. Another possible reason is that if the funds were sent to another person or organization (like a seller), then those funds may be on hold until the payment clears – which can take up to 7 days for U.S. payments or up to 10 days for international payments. If you made the payment from an account with insufficient funds, it could also be pending because PayPal needs time to transfer money from one of your other accounts into the one where it is pending, usually between 5-10 business days.

Best practices if you have issues with a payment

* Log into your PayPal account. Click on the Manage Money tab. Click Details next to the money that is on hold or pending and follow the on-screen instructions.

* If you don’t remember what the payment was for, click Search Payments. From there, you can filter by buyer email address, last four digits of their credit card number, last name, or IP address of where they logged in from.

*If none of these options work, look up any emails or receipts for details about what the payment is for and contact them about why it is not releasing.
