Ford E-Tourneo Custom electric van targets VW ID Buzz

Autofun Philippines – In addition to an all-electric variant, Ford will offer the new Tourneo Custom as a plug-in hybrid and with three diesel powertrains.

Ford is targeting potential customers for its VW ID Buzz battery-powered van with high-end versions of its recently launched E-Tourneo Custom passenger van.

The E-Tourneo Custom is a version of Ford’s new line of passenger vans based on the Transit Custom midsize van cars that debuted earlier this year.

The battery-electric version uses a 74 kilowatt-hour battery for a target range of 370 km (230 miles) and will be available in the top-spec Titanium X and SUV-inspired Active versions.

Martin Sander, regional head of Ford Model E electrical, tweeted that the vehicle is “suitable for surfing and mountaineering trips – and everything in between”. Ford says the custom models will not be sold in the United States.

The Tourneo Custom will also be available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain that combines a 2.5-liter petrol engine with an 11.8 kWh battery pack, promising an electric-only range of more than 50 kilometers (31 miles).

A diesel engine with three power levels will also be available, with all-wheel drive offered as an option on less powerful versions.

Ford says mass deliveries of the Tourneo Custom will begin “mid-2023” from its joint venture plant in Kocaeli, Turkey.

The top trims offer a wide range of equipment to appeal to customers who normally buy VW’s popular SUV or Multivan. The Titanium X model comes with 19-inch wheels, LED lights and synthetic leather upholstery for the seats, while a panoramic sunroof is optional.

Equipment available on all models for the first time includes a suite of driver-assist technologies, including adaptive cruise control with lane-centering, parking assist and a 360-degree camera system.

A 13-inch touchscreen in the center of the dashboard runs Ford’s SYNC 4 infotainment system complemented by a secondary digital display in front of the driver.

The wireless charging system can hold up to 9 devices, while the two outermost seats in the second row can be heated as an option.

The tilting steering wheel can also be used as a desk or desk. The Tourneo Custom can accommodate up to 9 people in 3 rows of seats, with the electric version up to 8 people.

The battery for the electric version is the same as that used by Ford on the F-150 Lightning pickup truck and is supplied by SK On.

Ford will also offer an optional vehicle charger, allowing customers to run the device from the pickup’s battery.

Transit Custom will also be the basis of the new VW Transporter midsize truck line under a multi-vehicle production agreement between the two companies.

The companies said by 2020 that they will jointly produce a total of 8 million commercial vehicles, including trucks and pickups.

VW splits its passenger van strategy by launching its own Multivan on the MBQ platform. VW offers both van and passenger versions of the ID Buzz, with prices starting at 54,430 euros for the retail variant.

Ford has not announced pricing for the E-Tourneo Custom.

The E-Tourneo Custom is one of nine all-electric models Ford plans to launch in Europe by 2024, including a battery-powered version of the Puma compact crossover, the company’s best-selling passenger car. firms in the region.

Ford’s first electric vehicle to be produced in Europe will be a mid-size SUV that will enter production at Ford’s factory in Cologne, Germany next year. The crossover will use the Volkswagen Group’s MEB electric platform, which underpins the VW ID4 SUV as well as the ID Buzz.

Ford announced in March that it would build an electric vehicle battery plant in Turkey with South Korean battery maker SK On and Turkish joint venture partner Koc Holding. If you have any idea, you can leave your comments below this section.
