1. Rishikesh

Rishikesh is the capital city of the Indian state of Uttarakhand and lies on the banks of the River Ganges. It’s a popular destination for tourists who want to take advantage of its pleasant climate. Uttarakhand is known as a paradise for travelers in India and millions of people make their way here each year to enjoy the holy town. It lies at a distance of about 20 kilometers northwest of Haridwar on the banks of the Ganga River. As per the 2011 census, the population of Rishikesh was approximately 1.5 million, making it the third largest city in Uttar Pradesh after Agra and Allahabad. 2. Yamunotri

Yamuna and Trigarta rivers originate at Yamunotri in the Himalayas. These two perennial rivers meet at Allahbad (Varanasi), India. Yamuna River flows a total length of about 860 Km. Trigart river originates at Tungnath (Panchkula) in Sahyadri mountain range near Pune. The two rivers merge at Varanasi and flow through the Gangetic plains to the Bay of Bengal. There are many waterfalls along their course. It was here that Lord Shiva had performed his last rites before he departed for Mt.Kailash.

As soon as the journey begins, devotees head towards Rishikesh where the Ganga River originates. Thereafter, they travel to Haridwar, the birthplace of Mother Ganges. After visiting Badrinath, pilgrims continue their journey to Gangotri in Uttarkashi for a night halt. The next morning, the travelers start their trek for Yamunotri, a holy shrine of Lord Vishnu located in Garhwal Himalaya. From here, devotees hop onto the bus to Chamoli, a popular destination for tourists. After resting overnight in Muktinath city, the pilgrims head back to Dehradun via Delhi.

4. Nainital Lake

Nainital Lake is located in the Western Himalayas in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. The name of the lake derives from two words – Naini (meaning small and referring to the size of the lake) and Tal (meaning ‘water’). The lake covers about 543 square kilometers (210 sq mi). It is about 60 km west-southwest of Dehradun city and 125 km north of Rishikesh, India’s first international hill station. These islands are mainly home to migratory birds like egrets, black swans, geese, and gulls. One can spot many varieties of wild animals like deer, langurs, bears, peacocks, pheasants, and parrots.

In winter, tourists flock here to enjoy skiing and snowboarding on nearby slopes. A cable car runs down from the top to the base camp of the ski slope.

5. Rudraprayag

Rudraprayag is a holy town situated at a height of around 3000 meters (9843 ft) above sea level in Uttarakhand, India. It lies 40 km away from Rishikesh, 30 km from Dehra Dun, and 60 km from Haridwar. There are many places of religious importance in and around Rudraprayag. These include temples like Shri Shiva temple, Sita Mata Temple, Brahmakund-the water tank, Rudranath Temple, Dev Narayan Temple, Bhimsen Temple, Hanuman Temple, Durga Temple, Gajendra Mound, Jageshwar Mahadev Temple, etc. One of the famous caves is Cave Badareshwar.
