The process of applying for a New Zealand visa as a Finn or Lithuanian

Finland and Lithuania citizens who wish to travel to New Zealand must apply for and obtain a New Zealand Visitor’s Visa to do so. This visa is issued by the New Zealand Department of Immigration and is valid for NEW ZEALAND VISA FOR FINLAND CITIZENS  nine months from the date of issuance. The applicant must demonstrate they have sufficient time and funds to cover the duration of their stay, have a valid passport and provide proof of a return ticket or the ability to purchase one. It should be noted that the visa is not applicable for those traveling to New Zealand for work or study purposes, or for medical treatment or purposeful conferences or seminars.

Assuming the application is successful, the applicant may then enter New Zealand for tourism or business purposes. As with most countries, the government of New Zealand reserves the right to deny entry to those judged as a potential change to national security or wellbeing. If a traveler does not meet the immigration requirements or does not possess the necessary documents to be admitted, their visa may be denied or revoked as well.

The visa allows for a stay of up to 90 days.

If the applicant meets all visa and immigration requirements, they are then free to experience the wonders of New Zealand. However, due to immigration restrictions, the traveler may not be allowed to work or study in New Zealand while on a visitor’s visa.

With the current pandemic, many countries have implemented new health and safety measures for those who wish to enter another nation’s borders. In the case of Finland and Lithuania, as it stands currently, visa-exempt visitors are required to obtain a visa in order to be eligible for travel to New Zealand.

Both Finland and Lithuanian citizens are eligible for the Visitor Visa for New Zealand. This visa grants international travelers, who hold a valid passport from Finland or Lithuania, the right to stay in New Zealand for up to nine months out of a 12-month period. During this time, visitors may take part in sightseeing, visiting family and friends and pursue study in the form of short courses, such as seminars or conferences. Those wishing to work while in the country are only allowed to do so with permission from the Labour Department.

Applying for a Visitor Visa requires a fee and certain documents. Applicants are expected to submit their passport and two passport-sized photographs, a completed application form and proof of accommodation, and a return ticket. Proof of sufficient funds is also required, as is evidence of any existing association with New Zealand and the purpose for one’s visit. As with nearly all visa applications, evidence demonstrating the ability to cover living costs and regular payment of fees will be thoroughly checked.

Once an application has been received and checked, the New Zealand authorities will make a decision on the applicant’s status. It is worth noting that, regardless of the outcome, visa application fees are non-refundable. Therefore, Finland and Lithuanian citizens are required to ensure that all their documentation is in order before submitting their application in order to maximize their chances of success.


New Zealand is taking immense measures to ensure the health and safety of citizens, and maintain a secure border. Therefore, as it stands, Finnish and Lithuanian nationals are required to obtain a Visitor Visa in order to be eligible for travel to New Zealand and must adhere to the conditions of their visa once in the country.
