All the tech (and other flashy features) Stuffed into the Ram 1500 Revolution EV truck

Ram 1500 Revolution

The battery-electric truck business is becoming increasingly congested, thus Stellantis unveiled its solution at CES 2023: a large pickup truck with plenty of technology, a longer cabin with third-row jump seats, cup holders in the trunk, and even a projector.

Not exactly what the Stellantis brand intends to produce by 2024 is the Ram 1500 Revolution BEV concept. (That rendition will be presented this year.) Even so, it offers the clearest image to date of Ram’s ambitions for its upcoming truck lineup and how it intends to compete against other players in the emerging EV truck market, such as the Ford F-150 Lightning and the Chevrolet Silverado EV.

It begins with a body-on-frame architecture made for full-size electric vehicles that incorporates the battery pack, underbody aero panels, and an active diffuser to enhance the vehicle’s aerodynamics. All-wheel drive is provided by two electric-drive modules positioned on the front and rear axles, and a rear-axle steering system enables the driver to turn the rear wheels up to 15 degrees.

Some crucial EV specifications, such as range and battery-pack size, weren’t disclosed by Ram; expect to see them later this quarter. The company did state that with 800-volt DC rapid charging at up to 350 kW, the Ram 1500 Revolution BEV Concept can increase its range by up to 100 miles in just 10 minutes. Of course, this implies that the 800-volt electric architecture required for quick charging in the production model will be there.

New face, Saloon doors

The Ram 1500 Revolution has a tonne of features, cutting-edge technology, and fresh aesthetic elements. The following stood out.

The Ram Revolution has a variety of intriguing exterior design choices, including a redesigned “face” with more contemporary badging and an animated LED tuning fork headlamp design.

The absence of a B pillar, which allows for a big saloon-style door opening, is perhaps the design element that stands out the most. The choice in design makes the large interior appear even more void. Actually, compared to Ram’s gas-powered similar trucks, the cabin is four inches longer. The saloon-style doors merely drive home that point.

3D-printed side-view mirrors

In order to decrease drag and improve aerodynamics, the side view mirrors are smaller than those on any other Ram vehicle. Additionally, 3D-printed components are used to create side-view mirrors, which use digital cameras to record the environment around the vehicle.

The vehicle concept also has a backup camera and a rearview mirror that can talk to biometric cameras that watch the surroundings around the truck.

Electro-chromatic roof

The Ram Revolution concept vehicle has an electrochromic roof with integrated roof rails and a full glass canopy. The overhead console can be used by passengers to control the ambient lighting while they are in the cab.

They can also customize the sun visors or the complete electro-chromatic roof by using Ram’s haptic swiping technology to change the opaqueness.

Shadow Mode

Yes, the car has a feature called “Shadow Mode” that enables it to automatically follow a driver who is walking in front of it. People who might be at a job site and might want the truck to follow along and carry tools are being targeted by this capability, which employs sensors and video technology to maneuver around obstructions.

Adjustable and removable lower display

According to Ram, the lower display can function as a tablet, passenger display, truck bed workstation, vehicle control, or game controller.

You may also combine the two 14.2-inch panels to create a wider viewing area.

Jump seats

What are some uses for a large interior? Of course, include third-row jump seats.

When not in use, the third-row jump seats are convenient for fitting six passengers inside the truck cab—say what? The lower portion of the jump seats’ mid-gate mounting is detachable.

Users may actually remove the center console and rearrange the seating thanks to the interior’s flexible design.

Frunk hole

A pass-through runs through the center console and into the frunk as part of the adaptable arrangement. This is now recognized as a frunk hole. Objects up to 18 feet long can now fit inside the truck thanks to this capability.

It is important to note how little this hole is. A pair of skis or even some metal or PVC piping could fit in this space.

Uncertain whether a piece will fit? The idea also includes a smartphone app that enables users to measure goods and assess whether they can be transported by a certain vehicle. Customers can use an integrated augmented reality camera measuring tool or scan the product’s barcode. Users of the smartphone app will be shown how to appropriately position the item in their vehicle.
