Seychelles travel: what to see and do in La Digue?

La Digue is an island of the Seychelles, located in the Indian Ocean. La Digue is the proof you need that heaven on earth exists, which is why this tiny island is a popular honeymoon destination. Palm trees, white sand beaches, coral reefs and exotic tropical vegetation make a trip to the Seychelles a real destination of choice.

Why visit La Digue?

La Digue is a small island that is part of the Seychelles archipelago. It's a popular honeymoon destination but unlike its big sisters, Mahé or Praslin, La Digue is more laid back. On this island, locals and tourists cycle or walk and you will rarely see a motor vehicle.

Time flows more slowly, which is why this Seychellois island is idyllic and relaxing, much like what you would expect from the perfect spot on Earth. Rest, relax and watch a romantic sunset over the Indian Ocean. Take the bike out and cycle around the island on the main road where you will feel safe at all times as there are very few cars here. There is always a beautiful white sand beach nearby. While exploring the island, you are likely to come across giant leaf-munching tortoises. If you're a bird lover, bring your binoculars with you for a chance to spot the rare paradise flycatcher.

Food at La Digue Seychelles

There are a few restaurants to try while on vacation on La Digue Island. Some overlook the ocean, making them the perfect spot for a sunset dinner. Other great restaurants specialize in seafood and local cuisine and will offer international dishes with a more refined presentation, again making it perfect for a romantic dinner with your partner.
For an economical holiday, rent a room with access to a kitchen and prepare your own meal. There are local markets in La Digue, where you can buy fresh fish.

The beaches of La Digue

La Digue has some of the most photographed beaches in the world, and for good reason: they are incredible. While exploring the island on foot or by bike, you will come across beaches after beaches, each one more superb than the next. Some seem wild and unexplored, while others will win you over with their coral reefs and tropical green fringes.
The best beach on La Digue is Anse Source d'Argent and has been named one of the best in the world for good reason. To get to the beach, you will have to go through the L'Union Estate farm. On the way, you will pass the plantation house and discover a real vanilla plantation. There is a small entrance fee to access the beach but it is well worth it.

No trip to the Seychelles is complete without seeing Grand Anse, a spectacular beach with white sand and the most serene turquoise waters. Since you are here, visit Pointe Grand Anse, a picturesque point with its typical granite rocks and tropical palm trees all around.
