The “Divyang Park’’ is all Set to Rise in Nagpur by the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment

Nagpur is set to get Maharashtra’s first “Divyang Park”. The park, which will be located in Reshimbagh, will be equipped with a range of facilities for the convenience of differently-abled people. These will include Braille signage, ramps, and tactile flooring. The park will also have a sensory garden, where plant life can be enjoyed through smell, touch, and sound. The project is being overseen by the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, in association with the Nagpur Municipal Corporation and the District Administration. It is hoped that the park will provide some much-needed respite for differently-abled people in the city.

The Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari,in the presence of Dr. Virendra Kumar -social justice minister, inaugurated a distribution camp to provide free aids for seniors (and Divyangjan) in the presence of Dr. Virendra Kumar -social justice minister. A total 241200 devices valued at Rs 483 lacs will be given out.

The Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Nitin Gadkari was present at a foundation stone laying ceremony in Nagpur. He said that standing last among society’s members must be given special attention by our government because it is their aim to empower such people through schemes implemented under the Ministry which includes Dr. Virendra Kumar as its head.

The first “Divyang Park” of Maharashtra will soon be established in Nagpur and it is expected that the work towards this endeavor will start soon. This park has been designed to provide facilities for disabled people like sensory gardens, textiles pathways touch & smell garden as well skill training courses, etc., which are inaccessible otherwise due their inability/unwillingness on traveling far away from home circle.

In order to help those with visual impairments or other kinds of disability, the government is distributing assistive devices at different locations throughout Nagpur. 

The inaugural distribution camp at Reshimbagh Ground has distributed 68683 Aids and Assistive devices valued at 919 lakhs among the pre-identified beneficiaries (8164 Senior citizens & 854 Divyangjan).

The Maharashtra government has announced that it will set up the state’s first ‘Divyang Park’ in Nagpur. This is a much-needed initiative and will provide much-needed respite and recreation facilities for people with disabilities. We hope that more such parks are set up across the state in the near future.
