Kombucha Recipe By Kombucha Kamp

Kombucha Recipe By Kombucha Kamp

1/2 gallon (2L) water

4 tsp. (20g) loose black tea or 2 black tea bags

1 cup (235g) white sugar

1/8 cup (30ml) unflavored kombucha or vinegar

1 SCOBY* (from a previous batch or a friend’s batch) and at least 1 cup kombucha from the same batch, or 2 SCOBYs* and 2 cups kombucha from the same batch

Optional flavoring agents: 1/4 tsp. dried lavender buds, 1/4 tsp. dried rose petals, 1/4 tsp. fresh grated ginger root.

Kombucha is a fermented drink made with tea, sugar and bacteria. The bacteria convert the sugar into alcohol and carbon dioxide, which gives kombucha its fizziness.

Kombucha Kamp has put together a great kombucha recipe to get you started. You can find their recipe here.

The ingredients are:

8 ounces green or black tea (1 tea bag)

2 tablespoons organic cane sugar (1/2 tsp)

3 tablespoons starter tea from last batch of kombucha (or 1/4 cup store-bought kombucha)

filtered water to fill up the jar to 8 ounces

It’s easy to make Kombucha at home with this simple recipe!

This is the best kombucha recipe I’ve found. It’s easy, inexpensive, and tastes great! It’s also very adaptable, so you can adjust the sugar content or carbonation level depending on your taste.

1 gallon purified water (room temperature)

1 cup sugar (white or brown)

1/4 cup tea (black, green or oolong)** I use organic black tea**

1 SCOBY culture

Kombucha is a sweet, effervescent beverage made by fermenting tea with a SCOBY (Symbiotic Colony of Bacteria and Yeast). It’s full of probiotics and antioxidants, which makes it a great drink to have on hand during cold and flu season.

Kombucha really is one of the easiest things to make at home! The only thing that might be difficult is finding the right ingredients. I’ve rounded up all the supplies you need to get started making kombucha at home, plus a few Isaimini 2021 recipes for inspiration.

Ingredients for Making Kombucha at Home

You can find all the supplies you need to make kombucha at home in our online shop. We carry everything from kombucha scoby starter cultures to organic tea bags and loose leaf tea. To start making kombucha at home, you’ll need:

Organic black or green tea bags

A brewing vessel – we recommend using wide mouth mason jars or glass jars with plastic lids (like these ones)

A rubber band or string – this will help secure the lid onto your jar during fermentation

A strainer – we recommend using fine mesh strainers like these ones that fit over top.

The recipe below is for a basic kombucha brew, but feel free to experiment with different flavors and ingredients. Try adding fruit, herbs or tea as you like.

Kombucha can be made from black tea, green tea or oolong tea. The more oxidized the tea leaves are (black), the more tannic acid they will contribute to your brew. Tannin gives kombucha its characteristic flavor and mouthfeel. I prefer oolong teas because they tend to have the highest caffeine content and give you energy!

You’ll need:

  • 1 gallon of spring water (or filtered water if your tap water is nasty)
  • 2 cups of sugar (organic cane sugar works best)
  • 2 bags of black tea (I like using Bigelow Organic Earl Grey) or 2 tablespoons loose leaf black tea leaves
  • 1 teaspoon starter tea (if you’re using loose leaf tea)
