Different Types of PCB Package Types

PLCC

PLCC packages are very versatile, allowing them to be used for a variety of devices. For example, read-only memory chips often come in PLCC packages, enabling them to be swapped with other chips. This type of package is used in everything from consumer electronics to aerospace.

PLCCs come in several different shapes and sizes. There is a square and rectangular form, with lead counts ranging from eighteen to eighty. Both of these types are JEDEC-standardized, although they differ slightly in size. A PLCC package’s leads are 1.27 mm, unlike those of its ceramic counterpart, which are 1.28 mm.

Silicone

Silicone pcb package types differ depending on their application. Conventional PCBs usually require a silicone conformal coating that adheres well to the circuit board. These coatings are also compatible with thermal paste, which is an essential component for high-temperature PCBs. However, silicone PCB packages can be prone to absorb moisture during application, so it’s important to apply the coating evenly to avoid any unevenness.

Silicone PCB package types come in two forms: the wireboned BGA package and the flipchiped package. The wireboned BGA package uses wires to connect the silicon die to the substrate. Flipchiped PCBs, on the other hand, use solder balls to connect the bumps to the board’s surface.

Polyurethane

Polyurethane is a versatile polymeric material that is hard, insulating, and flexible. Its properties make it a suitable choice for packaging electronic components. In addition to being flexible, polyurethane also has excellent chemical resistance. In addition, it is easy to apply and repair. This material is widely used in printed circuit board applications, and it is also capable of encapsulating components.

Polyurethane PCBs are manufactured using a process called conformal coating. It provides superior dielectric and chemical resistance to circuitry on a printed circuit board. This process is highly cost-effective and protects the circuitry in the board.

Epoxy

Printed circuit boards are made from plastic materials such as epoxy resins. These materials are highly durable and provide the board with strength and elasticity. They are commonly used in industries to protect electrical components from moisture, dust, and short circuits. They are inexpensive and are compatible with fiberglass. Moreover, they have a strong adhesive bond, so they are ideal for industrial applications.

PCBs are also used in medical equipment, like X-ray machines, CT Scanners, ultrasonic scanners, blood glucose monitors, and heart rate monitors. They are also used in modern automobiles. Electronics and radios are often housed on the dashboard of vehicles, and these electronic components are embedded in printed board circuits.
