INTRODUCTION:

Triund trek is located in a small hill station in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. Triund trek has become a well-known trekking destination among the trekkers of India as well as among tourists from abroad. The place has become popular due to the developments in recent years such as network connectivity and access to this place has become easy. This trek is at an altitude of about 2,828 metres. 

Each year, several tourists visit this trek to enjoy the serenity of this place and rejuvenate themselves in the fresh air of nature. This place consists of infinite breathtaking views of the Dhauladhar Himalayas. Also, there are several tourist destinations near this trek, making this place more recognised. 

When to visit Triund?

You can visit triund throughout the year. But the months of January and February are not ideal for trekking as the trek is covered fully with snow in these months. Also, heavy snowfall cuts off the network connectivity and blocks the roads as well. 

Triund trek is full of grassy meadows from where you can take a look at the best views of the trek. You can see the Dhauladhar ranges and the scenic beauty of Kangra valley. Mostly, September and October are counted as the best months to visit the trek. At this time, the weather is pleasant and you can trek easily. The climate gets chilly at night. Monsoons are also considered a good time to trek.

The lovely small community is embellished with enduring natural beauty. The Laka Glacier has a pleasant temperature all year round due to its elevation of 10,610 feet, however, the winters are quite cold with lows of -5 degrees Celsius.

During Summertime:

Temperatures for the Laka Glacier Trek typically vary from 7 to 15 degrees Celsius, which creates a relaxing atmosphere for leisurely strolls across the Kangra valley.

While monsoons:

Due to the regular rain, the temperature drops a little during the monsoon, but the monsoon has its own distinct taste thanks to the clouds and fog-covered valley. There is a 5 to 10 degree Celsius difference in the air temperature.

In the winters:

This season’s focus is a full Disney look. During this time, there is heavy snowfall and the temperature sometimes falls as low as -5 degrees celsius. The cold breeze and freezing floors are seen during this time.  The greatest time to see Laka Glacier is if you enjoy the snow.

How to get to the Triund Trek?

The nearest Airport is Gaggal airport which is nearly 13 km from Dharamshala.

The nearest Railway Station is Pathankot junction (85 km from Dharamshala). 

You can also visit the triund by road from NH 503. 

Some of the must-visit destinations nearby are:

Gallu Devi Temple, Shiva Cafe, Norbulingka monastery in Dharamshala and Bhagsu Nag falls.

Triund Trek Difficulty Level:

Mostly, Triund is considered an easy trek for trekkers and adventure seekers. It is considered a good option for beginners with even no experience. The total duration of the trek is nearly 4-6 hours. The length of the trek is 9 km approx. But it is advised to stay there overnight to watch the mesmerising sunset and sunrise. So, on average people stay there for at least 2 days. Considering it a one-day trek, its difficulty level ranges from easy to medium. The Triund trek has curvy and steep paths.

There are also some guest houses to stay in if you do not want to stay in the tents at night. There are no such trekking charges for the Trek. But, if you would take a taxi to the place called Dharamkot, then the taxi driver might charge you some money to travel up there. Triund Trek passes through the highest waterfall, The Bhagsu nag waterfall of Dharamshala, McLeod Ganj. 

Triund Trek Itinerary

Day 1 of the trek:

 You have to travel to Dharamkot via taxi or a cab. You can start the trek whenever you want as per your comfort. But it is good to start the journey in the morning. So that you will reach the top in 3-4 hours. Then relax for some time and then take pleasure in the starry sky overnight in the tents. 

Day 2 of the trek: Descending from Triund top.  

After doing your breakfast, travel back to the base camp i.e., Dharamkot. Start travelling to Mcleodganj. Then, as per your time schedule, you can visit some places in Dharamshala and Mcleodganj. There are many famous monasteries there where you can see the well-known Buddhist culture and their traditions. Then, you can travel back to your home with a bundle of sweet and glorious memories of the beautiful Triund trek.
